3 Factors that Influence your Electric Car's Charging Time

Your electric car’s charging device (on-board charger), legal requirements and the charging power of your domestic installation all determine how quickly your Opel Ampera-e is recharged at the charging station.  Legal restrictions for single-phase charging at home: Germany: up to 4.6 kW of charging power; Austria and Switzerland: up to 3.7 kW of charging power.

How to Charge your Opel Electric Car when you are out and about

Charging at a CEE Industrial Socket

You can charge your Opel electric car anywhere while you are out and about – provided that you have a mobile charging station, such as the NRGkick, and the right adapters. The Ampera-e can be charged with up to 7.2kW of charging power at any 32 A CEE industrial socket, just like using the charging station at home.


Charging at Public Charging Stations

You can also charge up your Opel Ampera-e at public charging stations. However, most providers of public charging stations will require that you register with them beforehand. As a result, public charging needs good planning. Special Features when Charging Your Opel Ampera-e:

Again Opel is one step ahead and chose the Paris Motor Show to present their new full-electric vehicle with a tremendous range, the Opel Ampera-e. With a battery capacity of 60 kWh the new model from Rüsselsheim is capable of driving up to 520 km on a single charge. Of course the regular range varies depending on your driving style, season of the year and your air conditioning. Besides the high range, the type 2 connector is also a new feature. The maximum speed of the Ampera-e is 150 km/h and it gets charged with up to 7.2 kW (single-phase). If you want to charge up faster, the Ampera-e is capable of CCS fast-charging. Of course you can charge the Opel Ampera-e with a Mode-2 charging cable on e regular 2.3 kW seperately fused domestic socket. For safety reasons, however, you should avoid doing this in the long term, since charging your car from a domestic socket will place the maximum load on the socket for approximately 26 hours. You can charge your Opel Ampera-e safely and forward-thinking with a charging station. The twin of the American Chevrolet Bolt is available in Germany from April 2017 on.


Special Features when Charging Your Opel Ampera (until 2016):

The Opel Ampera is one of the long established cars of electric mobility. According to Opel the Ampera combines the advantages of an electric power  train with the range of a conventional car and reaches its maximum speed of 160 km/h fully electric. The battery capacity of 16 kWh is good enough for 40 km of electric range. Several factors influence the range, such as driving style, season of the year and air conditioning. When charging with the maximum charging power of 3.7 kW the Opel Ampera is charged in approximately 4.5 hours. Charging works with a Type 1 connector.
