What is the range of my e-car and how long does it take to charge?

The range of electric cars currently varies from 120 kilometers to around 500 kilometers on a full charge. Depending on driving style, weather conditions and the age of the battery, this value can fluctuate somewhat. In particular, newer models such as the Mercedes-Benz EQC or the Hyundai Kona are suitable for longer journeys with their generous range.

5 tips how to increase your range

  1. Look ahead

    Drive with foresight and accelerate sensitively. Avoid braking to a standstill. Defensive acceleration and rolling helps to keep consumption low.

  2. Slowing down = driving longer

    Adjust the (maximum) speed. The faster the speed, the greater the force of air resistance. And that drains the battery more quickly. Narrow, rolling resistance-optimized tires with aerodynamically closed rims have an equally positive effect on drag.

  3. Natural climate

    Switch off the air conditioner. This consumes a lot of energy. For this reason, car manufacturers such as Tesla and Volkswagen are also developing new solutions for generating heat and cold for the interior of e-cars. This could provide an important lever for increasing range.

  4. Sail away

    Reduce weight on your car. Although weight plays a subordinate role in driving resistance, unnecessary additional weight should still be avoided. The same applies to roof superstructures and bicycle racks.

  5. Recuperate

    Use recuperation. Modern e-cars like the Audi e-tron recuperate very well. With a maximum recuperation power of 220 kW, almost every braking action is converted back into electrical energy.
