With the largest electric fleet in the country, Österreichische Post is showing a strong commitment to electric mobility. By 2030, the postal company aims to achieve an emission-free last-mile delivery. For this to become reality, the ideal charging conditions are to be set up and expanded at the logistics sites to supply the constantly growing electric fleet with sufficient power. In the company’s search for a dynamic load management with potential for the future, the hardware-agnostic Charging and Energy Management system ChargePilot® by the leading technology company The Mobility House successfully outdid the competition in the tendering process. In the future, Charge Pilot®will intelligently control over 2,000 AC and DC charging points in all the Post’s charging parks.
At present, the electric vehicles of Österreichische Post are already able to service roughly 80% of the delivery areas in all of Austria. ChargePilot®by The Mobility House is used to ensure that all vehicles are fully charged at all sites in the mornings, without the available grid connection being overloaded. The system does this by optimizing the phase-accurate charging power. In real time, the charging of the electric vehicles is thus either scheduled in sequential phases or throttled. ChargePilot® also takes into consideration all other power consumers at each particular site. This means that not only the ongoing operating costs are kept low, but also an expensive grid expansion is avoided. Furthermore, the system allows prioritized charging for certain vehicles, so that the required range can be guaranteed for individual transporters, for example. The system ultimately also increases operational reliability, as future potential failures can be detected immediately.
