For this purpose, the two sector coupling experts have cleverly adapted the Vehicle-to-Grid approach: A fully charged electric vehicle - a Nissan Leaf - works as a power storage and supplies the Wacken camp of the future with energy. The Mobility House supplies the technology to store electricity, that has been generated through photovoltaic systems in the vehicle and retrieve it when needed. This intelligent software connects the energy producer, the consumer and the storage. Using car batteries as a decentralised storage — known as Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) —is suitable for a wide variety of use cases which The Mobility House has already tested in various projects. Electric vehicles and/or their batteries are being used as mobile temporary energy storage and serve as small, flexible power plants. When there is plenty of (sun) light, they can be intentionally charged with renewable energy. This energy can then be given back to the users or the grid flexibly when the cars are not being driven.

The smart software from The Mobility House links the energy producers, consumers and storage. The showcase demonstrates that a comfortable camping setup with typical household appliances and small electric devices, such as a refrigerator, grill, coffee machine, TV, etc., can be supplied with renewable energy. At W:O:A 2019, all electrical devices in the two tents will be supplied with power in this way. If needed, the Nissan Leaf battery can be given an intermediate charge with renewable energy.
