Western Regional Delivery Services (WRDS) is a family-run delivery company handling freight shipping, warehousing, and logistics management for some of America’s largest retailers, from Walmart to Best Buy. This year, they began running three new electric heavy-duty trucks, showing that efficiency and sustainability can go hand in hand, even for the most demanding applications.
Currently, battery-electric trucks account for less than 1% of all U.S. heavy-duty trucks. This is largely because this class of vehicles is energy-intensive, making it difficult to create workable charging and routing plans for many use cases.
WRDS is addressing these challenges with ChargePilot®. The intelligent charge management system coordinates charging between all three trucks and a single 3-port Heliox charger, by optimizing their charging schedules to obviate the need for additional hardware. This approach ensures vehicle readiness, reduces strain on the grid, and lowers utility costs, delivering efficiency and savings for the family-run business.
Intelligent charge management can not only make heavy-duty truck electrification practical but also affordable for America’s supply chain carriers.
"As a family-run shipping and logistics company, transparency and reliability have always been at the heart of what we do. With support from The Mobility House, we’re proud to add sustainability to that mission. Our three Volvo electric trucks can run hundreds of miles every day without any tailpipe emissions. ChargePilot® helps us manage and optimize our charging schedule, so each truck has maximum availability to complete its route."
