In 2023, a consortium of 10 transit agencies in Quebec announced one of the
largest procurements of electric buses in North America, a strong commitment
to clean mobility. The decision to purchase made-in-Quebec electric transit
buses from Nova Bus, was a commitment that would “help transform the face of mobility in Montréal,” said Eric Alan Caldwell, chair of the Société de transport de Montréal
(STM) Board of Directors.
The Consortium was led in this effort by
the STM, the public transportation agency responsible for operating Montreal's
transit system. Serving 2 million riders per day, the STM is a key player in
sustainable mobility, continually striving to enhance public transit solutions
to meet the needs of Montrealers and support the city’s environmental and
urban planning goals.

A joint funding agreement with the federal government of Canada and the provincial government of Quebec will support the purchase of up to 1,229 electric buses to be supplied by Nova Bus to 10 transit agencies in Quebec.
With the first electric buses from this order planned for delivery in 2026,
the STM turned to ABB E-mobility and The Mobility House for charging
infrastructure, via public tender. The two companies worked hand-in-hand to
meet the demanding standards of a transit electrification implementation of
this magnitude. Both ABB E-mobility and The Mobility House have local offices
and dedicated staff in Montréal, which has enabled continuously solid
communication and project coordination.
The Mobility House was
honored to be selected for a project of this importance in Montréal, and our
Product team met regularly with the STM and ABB E-mobility to understand and
deliver on every customer expectation. Designated features of ChargePilot were
prioritized and developed to be ready for implementation of this project,
including single sign-on, depot map, and customized data reporting. The STM is
also the first fleet operator to use ChargePilot in French.

Driving Canada's Electrification Journey with The Mobility House
When it comes to delivering real impact on Canada's road to electrification, The Mobility House (TMH) knows that progress starts at home.
The first phase of the project includes the installation of 64 charge ports at two bus garages, Anjou and Legendre. The STM chose a mix of ABB E-mobility’s Terra 184 and Terra 124 models, to meet the needs of their fleet and the space available within the two sites.
This project is a model for transit agencies across Canada: supporting Quebec companies, improving quality of life in Montréal neighborhoods with quiet and clean electric buses, and hitting sustainability goals without sacrificing service reliability.
